And one of the reasons is how Devon Sawa is able to do all the physical stuff himself. It does get violent and it does have blood in it - but it also is as funny as it gets. But while this has a bit of nudity (literally) and some hot situations, it does focus more on the horror and comedy stuff it has. Something boys may like to claim when they discover their sexuality I reckon. Be it our main character hiding in the bush(es) of his neighbor or proclaiming he isn't able to control his hand. The potential is there, now Kaluuya needs to be convinced that this is the way to go.Now that may sound like innuendo and if you think so - well the movie gives you lots of reasons to feel there is even more innuendo. To turn the franchise on its head and film Barney as a horror movie would be the ultimate curveball. That’s how most of these reboots have gone and for the most part, there are pros to both sides of the coin. The former will kick-start the franchise while the latter will be lambasted online and fuel a month’s worth of memes. This live-action Barney is either going to be a huge hit or a complete disaster. The last time a Barney movie was made, it was nearly the same concept. In a world obsessed with dark origin stories and Netflix serial killer documentaries, this seems like a no brainer. Replace big purple dinosaur with the “red room,” and you basically have the premise of The Haunting of Hill House. There’s a haunted vibe to this that could use further explaining. He’s imaginary, but he appears as real to all of the children he hangs out with. There are a lot of unanswered questions when it comes to the concept of the big purple dinosaur. Why should Barney miss out on the opportunity? What brought him to life? A failed science experiment? A zoo trial gone wrong? Why did he get into teaching or daycare or whatever it is he passes as his “job” while spending the day dancing and singing with children? What does Barney eat? Are all of those children accounted for? Could you imagine the “I love you, you love me” song being sung by a spooky child’s voice, accompanied by slow, isolated, horrifying piano notes being played as Barney chases children through a dimly lit school hallway? Perhaps Barney shows up to wreak havoc on a children’s birthday party?Įveryone else is getting a dark origin story. Simply make the upcoming Barney movie a horror, then sit back and collect awards.īarney, a giant purple dinosaur living with children has the opportunity to be the horror flick of the decade. This has the opportunity to be the Joker of 2020, and getting it there wouldn’t be difficult at all. Outside of the first few episodes, the entire series turned into a world of dark magic and chaos.īarney & Friends has been running from 1992 to 2009 (really?), so the fanbase for the live-action remake spans multiple generations of viewers who grew up on the show, most of who are now in their 20s and 30s. High school things like solving murders, joining gangs and fighting demons. Look at Riverdale, a Netflix series based on Archie comics in which a bunch of high school children do high school things. We take characters we know and love and shape them in ways no one could ever fathom.
